Focus Group Discussion – Informatics Study Program Curriculum Review

FGD activities for curriculum review held in 2023. This FGD was attended by:

  1. Dr. Ir. Novirina Hendrasarie, M.T. as Dean of Fasilkom UPN Veteran Jawa Timur
  2. Vice Deans 1,2 and 3 of the Faculty of Computer Science
  3. Wahyudi Agustiono, S.Kom., M.Sc., P/hd as Vice President of AISINDO
  4. Lecturer of Informatics

Results of Visits and Input from Partners, Alumni, and Stakeholders:
a) The industrial world requires graduates who have strong practical skills, especially in web and mobile-based software development.
b) Partners emphasize the importance of communication skills, teamwork, and technology adaptability.
c) Alumni suggest that students be given experience on real projects, including an understanding of the software development life cycle.
d) Stakeholders expect graduates to have an understanding of IT governance, professional ethics, and end-user needs.

Curriculum Development Recommendations:

1) Web Programming and UI/UX:
a) Retained as a core course because it has high relevance to user and industry needs.
b) Understanding of interface design (UI) and user experience (UX) is considered crucial for developing functional and user-friendly applications.


2) Programming Framework:
Included as an elective course, so that students have the flexibility to choose a competency path based on their interests and industry needs (examples: Laravel, React, Flutter).

3) Soft skills and Professional Ethics:
a) Soft skills material (communication, work ethics, team collaboration) is integrated into the Informatics Ethics and Competence course
b) Students are trained to understand professional behavior, IT ethics, and social awareness as part of their professional responsibilities.


4) IT Governance:
The Information Technology Governance course is included as a supporting course, covering frameworks such as COBIT, ITIL, and IT asset management in organizations.


5) Curriculum Review with APTIKOM and ACM:
a) The curriculum is reviewed and compared with APTIKOM standards (for national conformity) and ACM/IEEE (for international reference).
b) Several courses are reviewed in terms of learning outcomes, syllabus, and credit weights to align with the framework.
